ONE famed fast food restaurant Chick-Fil-A is known for keeping its doors closed on Sundays, but it might not be for long.

A new bill introduced in New York could force certain Chick-fil A locations to be open on Sundays.

Known for its famous chicken sandwiches and waffle fries, the chain restaurant is only open Monday through Saturday.

But a new bill in New York could affect the eatery's decades-long tradition.

Contracts entered into by the New York State Thruway Authority with food providers at transportation facilities and rest areas would require food services to remain open seven days a week per Bill A08336 introduced in New York.

This is only slated to affect Chick-fil-A locations at rest stops along Interstate 90.

Seven Chick-fil-As are located in multiple New York State Thruway rest stops, with three more planned to be built, according to WRGB Albany.

Because the restaurant is closed on Sundays, other restaurants in the rest stop provide additional options for travelers.

According to the New York State Assembly,  there is nothing objectionable about a fast food restaurant closing on a particular day of the week."

It goes on to say that service areas dedicated to travelers is an inappropriate location for a restaurant.

"Allowing for retail space to go unused one seventh of the week or more is a disservice and unnecessary inconvenience to travelers who rely on these service areas," reads the bill.

The bill will also require New Jersey to enact the same law for food services at the Port Authority.

This would take effect after New Jersey passes a statute similar to the one in New York.

The U.S. Sun reached out to Chick-fil-A in a request for comment.

BREAKING TRADITION

Founded in 1946, Chick-fil-A and its founder S. Truett Cathy, decided to keep its doors closed on Sundays for his employees to worship or rest.

And it's not the only religious principle the fast food establishment has abided by.

The U.S. Sun did a deep dive on what the company has said about the LGBTQ+ community.

The company's official statement of corporate purpose says that the business exists "To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us.

It also strives to "have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A."

Chick-fil-A donated more than $1.8 million to The Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Salvation Army, and the Paul Anderson Youth Home, all of which have a history anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination.

In 2019, Chick-fil-A announced that they changed their mission and donate to different charities than they have in the past but did not specifically confirm they would stop giving to anti-gay charities.
